I have read that most men who play online RPGs (I think around 65-75%) do not see their avatar as an extension of themselves. It is generally those players who have no issue with playing as female characters.However, the vast majority of women do see their avatars as extensions of themselves. This is why you very seldom see a woman playing a male character.It's a really interesting distinction in mindset - when you play an online RPG, are you creating a distinct avatar to play with in the game world, or are you creating a digital version of yourself?
