The need to be politically correct is what allowed this guy to remain in the Army. To be a Major and ultimately to commit this crime. Out Military people are constantly being told they have to sensitive, that they can't generalize or stereotype. And while that is good for the most part, at some point you have to say: Gee the Army Major publicly claiming the suicide bombers are justified needs to be removed from the Army. Quax, The vast majority of civilians killed in Iraq and Afghanistan have been killed by Insurgents, Moslems. You can call them freedom fighters, you can call them what you want, but to imply that American Soldiers are the ones killing civilians is nonsense. If you want to claim its a reaction to the presence of American Soldiers that's fine too, but the reality these people are fighting to gain or maintain power.

I know it's not one guy, but I've always been partial to the Chosin Reservoir campaign of the Korean war. In the coldest winter in Korean history (consistently 20 below,) and outfitted only in rain jackets, the Marine Corps first division was advancing to the Chinese border as quickly as possible. Unknown to the Americans, the entire Chinese 9th army (led by Long March veterans no less) had crossed the Yalu in October. U.S. army resistance dissolved under attack and the marines were surrounded and outnumbered about at roughly 10-1. Despite that, they managed to fight their way out and through the casualties they inflicted managed to keep the 9th army from dramatically altering the outcome of the war.

Yeah, lots of craziness among the pundits. The Democrats just picked up a House seat -- a district that hasn't swung blue since before our great-grandparents were born, no less -- and that's supposed to make them worry about losing control of the legislature in 2010?The other races have no predictive value; governors are a totally different beast than federal offices. NY-23 was the race to watch, and the teabaggers proved they're still political poison. It's a real shame, because I'd really like to see a rational opposition party these days.
